Plant Life Lessons

In February I moved to a house with just two types of plants… a row of red hibiscus and a bougainvillea. For a girl who loves working with plants and being surrounded by plants this was unacceptable. However, I liked the layout of the house and the location and so I thought I could live with a few plants and add over coming months.

That didn’t last long; shocking, right? Within a month I had filled my yard and porch with color in the form of plants. There are flowers everywhere. It brings my soul such happiness.

In working with my plants I’ve had a few that were looking scraggly, a few that almost seemed dead. It took some trimming and extra love, but they have come back to life and a few of them have now been spilt into multiple plants.

If I’ve learned anything from plants it’s that sometimes we’ve got to trim, we’ve got to take a little extra care, we’ve got to uproot and change around our surroundings so we can thrive.

My world is decidedly different now than it was at the start of the year. I’ve sold my house, moved across town, and switched jobs. In the process I’ve gotten rid of lots of stuff while adding a few things that I really wanted. More importantly, I’ve got more time with my pets and it’s easier to see the man I adore. My job allows me to use my creative brain and I enjoy the team I work with.

In the process of these changes I’ve been finding my joy again. I’m delighting in taking photos of the sky, I’m reading more, and I’m feeling balance return.

Maybe when life seems to be turning brown and we’re not thriving it just means we need to make some changes to our life. Update our surroundings and watch as we begin to bloom.
