I haven’t been feeling the Thanksgiving spirit much lately and wasn’t sure I could pull myself into enough gratitude to write about Thanksgiving.
Enter evening yoga practice and the words began to flow into my brain.
Thanksgiving has been a love/hate holiday for me for years due to a mix of awesome and terrible memories from this time of year.
However, back in 2009 I started making the majority of Thanksgiving dinner for my parents and any friends or family who wanted to spend time together for the holiday. I love to cook, especially when I’m cooking for other people. The cooking while watching some sort of holiday movie or show always perks me up come the actual day of Thanksgiving.
This year I’ve been way too focused on how Thanksgiving won’t look like the vision I have in my head for the day and haven’t been feeling the Thanksgiving spirit at all… Until tonight during yoga practice. Suddenly I remembered how much I enjoy cooking the turkey and sides. I remembered that I’ll be surrounded by love in the form of fur babies and family. Just because I wish it was happening in a mountain filled area and had a different view doesn’t make it a bad day.
Often things in our life don’t look exactly how we would like and it’s ever so easy to get caught up in that, but then we lose sight of what good there is, of what is right in front of us.
Friends, life isn’t exactly how I’d like it to be, but it’s quite lovely regardless. So, as we begin a time to give thanks I’m sending out some gratitude for all the good things. I’m grateful for the love in my life, for having a place to lay my head at night, and for the ability to create the future that I dream of.
May your holiday be filled with love and laughter and multiple reasons to give thanks.
Much love!
Since I am not from these parts of the world, I am just catching up with the traditions of Thanksgiving. As such I have no expectations. But you are right, things don’t always end up looking as we may have expected, but we still need to meet the world with an open mind, don’t we. I wish you a wonderful Thanksgiving.

In all of life, not just holidays things often go very differently from what we get in our minds.
If you’re celebrating Thanksgiving this year, I hope you enjoy it!
