Actions – Simple and Potent

People have different ways of expressing love and different thoughts about what constitutes as love. While flowers and beautiful gifts are great, there is something to be said about the love that is quiet and simple.

It took me several years to learn that love is expressed in a variety of ways and to appreciate that while words are beautiful and necessary, the actions are where the truth of love is.

Looking back I can see that the times the words and actions did not align to show love were valuable even though painful. Because after living through those parts of my life I find my appreciation of the genuine actions that represent love is strong. I value and respect those actions more with each day that passes. It is easy to say “I love you”, people say it all the time. Showing it, being it, living it… That is where it counts.

Those times that the people who care for us step outside their comfort zone for us, when they do something that is difficult for them because it brings joy to your life. When someone steps outside their comfort zone to step into an area that is important to us we often forget how hard it is for that person to make that step. This is something I am becoming more away of in life. It takes courage to do something you’re not comfortable with or are scared of. When someone does this for another person it is truly a priceless gift.

In society we often see love expressed with big, fancy, expensive gifts. It can be easy to take for granted the things that cost nothing except time from another person.

To me, there is something so perfect about the actions of caring for someone, really caring for them. Not just saying it, but doing it. Choosing it on the difficult days and the best days. Making those you care for a priority.

It isn’t the stuff we accumulate that matters, it is the love we have and the life we live. The memories we create.

Make more memories. Step outside your comfort zone! Take chances on actively caring for others. Choose to let your words be caring and make sure your actions convey those words. You may never realize how deeply those gifts of care will impact the person receiving them.

Much love!
