My brother has told me more than once that he has been learning to be love instead of being loved. We talk about this and how it can be hard to focus ourselves on being love. It is in our nature to want to be loved and we often forget that what is best is to be love. Usually when we decide to be love we find that being loved naturally happens. With that said, there are days… days that the world is exhausting and it becomes easy to forget this. It is those days that we (most of us) want to be loved and often struggle to be love. For a long time I beat myself up over these moments. What I am learning is to be love not just to others, but also to be love to myself and allow for the times that I slip up on this quest to be love. If we don’t start by being love to the very essence of who we are it is next to impossible to be love to anyone else.
The funny thing about love is how it looks and feels different to all of us. How we express it varies so greatly. Touch, gifts, words of encouragement, notes, or (in the case of my brother) a slap to the back of the head. These are just a few of the ways it can be expressed. There are times I think we miss the love around us because it does not look or sound like the love we express. It is always good to remember that love is shown in many ways and with words that are not “I love you”.
Joe Rogan and Elon Musk did a podcast (watch it) and at the end they were talking about love and I started thinking about how important it is in our lives. The love, support, and encouragement that we all need. Not that we can’t live without it, but life is unquestionably better with it. This got me thinking about being love and appreciating the love that we are given so that we create this sweet little circle of love.
Back to point, in this world of ever rising jobby (Google jobby and find Gerard Butler talking about it), we can choose to be love. Even when tired, even when we aren’t feeling it. Often I find that choosing to love when I feel like it least is what makes me want to be love even more. When we get into that little circle of love it can make the jobby of the planet fade away. What a wonderful feeling that is.
