I don’t rock climb often, but when I do I always find myself starting to go one way and then having to step back and change my approach. I can stand on the ground and look at that wall or those boulders and see the route one way, but when I get on that wall or those rocks I see a completely different route. Perspective is amazing. It’s also not always easy to find the right perspective when you are looking at a situation from one angle only.
As I look at my life I have to keep stepping back and walking around, looking from different angles to figure out my route. I see different forks off the path, but often don’t actually pay attention to the details of them.
As I type this I am in the midst of a mental rock wall of sorts. I see where I want to get there, but am having to step back and evaluate my route. Reality is that I have to step back and be in the moment and be patient. As Billy Joel says, “slow down you crazy child”…
Life is constantly shifting and changing and we have to move with it as it does. When you are impatient and stubborn this can be a challenge. Maybe spending more time watching the waves or walking amongst the trees will help soothe my soul as I become impatient.
Either way, I am working to change my approach to all of life and not just that rock wall.
