Family, It’s Not All About Blood

As a child I always wanted a family like The Waltons. Since I’m an only child that wasn’t going to happen. One of the great things about the life though, is that you can choose to extend your family. People don’t have to be blood to be family.

Throughout my life I’ve been blessed to have many people who’ve I’ve called family. I’m reminded of this more than ever today. My nephew is graduating and going in the Army. Today was a party for him and there was family all around. This is family who became family because we love each other, not because we are genetically connected.

This got me thinking about the people in my life who have become the siblings I didn’t have growing up and the other people who are like parents to me.

These are the best things in life. The friendships that randomly occur and turn into a deeper connection. It’s not always easy to start friendships and to maintain them, but they’re so worth the time and effort you put in.

Much love!
